Notifications

Choose what kanman tells you and where: in the app, as a push notification, by email or as a Slack direct message, with quiet hours, the morning brief and story updates in team chats.

Questions that wait for you are always pinned in your chat with kanman. Where else kanman tells you is up to you, on one page.

Opening notifications

  1. Click your avatar at the top right and choose Your settings.
  2. Open Notifications (/account/notifications).

Each change on this page is saved at once: a short Saved appears next to the row, and Undo in the message at the bottom takes it back.

Push notifications

The first card is about this device: turn push notifications on or off, see your devices and send a test. See Push notifications.

What reaches you

One table shows everything kanman tells you. Each row is a thing that happens, each column a place it reaches you: In the app, Push (once a device gets push notifications), Email and Slack DM. Switch a cell on or off. A dash means that this row doesn’t come that way.

Morning brief by email Email

In the app, kanman tells you in the chat it concerns: a team’s news in your chat with that team, everything else in General. When someone mentions you in a note, kanman tells you there too, with a link to the story or goal. The weekly report arrives in the team’s chat for the people who follow the team and for the workspace’s owners and admins.

On a phone each row shows the places it reaches you as small labels, for example App ยท Email. Tap the row to switch them in a small sheet.

Morning brief

Each working day kanman sends you one message in General: what was delivered since yesterday, what is in progress, what comes next and what needs you, for the teams you follow. Switch it on in the In the app column of the Morning brief row; its Time appears in the row. The time is your local time, and there is no brief on your teams’ days off.

Email

Under the table, How often emails come sets Each one at once, Daily digest, Weekly digest or No emails, and for a digest the Digest time. With No emails the Email column is greyed out until you choose another frequency.

Morning brief by email is off until you turn it on: then your morning brief also comes by email, with a link back to kanman. They never come as a push or interrupt you.

Direct messages in your conversation

Keep my direct messages with kanman in my conversation: what you write to kanman in Slack or Microsoft Teams, and its answers, also appear in your conversation in the app. Slack direct messages need kanman in your Slack workspace (Workspace settings > Connections).

Quiet hours

Once a device gets push notifications, Quiet hours sets when pushes wait, on all your devices (on by default, 22:00 to 07:00 in your time zone). A bar under the times shows the day from 0 to 24 hours with the quiet stretch shaded and a mark at the current time. What needs you waits until the quiet hours end and arrives as one notification per subject; it still shows in the app.

Under Advanced:

  • Urgent incidents during quiet hours: a critical or high incident reaches you at any time. Off by default.
  • Follow each team’s working hours: notifications about a team wait until its working hours begin (see working hours).
  • From where: turn push notifications off for the whole workspace or for single teams.

Story updates in team chats

Choose how often a story’s card in a team chat moves to the bottom: Quiet (the default: only when a story is delivered, needs you, is stuck or its plan changed), Normal (also when it is ready for review) or Detailed (every step). See Debriefs, Later and calmer updates.

Under Per team, each team of the workspace shows your level or Muted. Mute a team to stop kanman’s updates about it in your conversation; you still get every page, every question to you, your drafts and your runners. Choose your level again to follow the team again.

To post a team’s decisions to a shared Slack channel instead, add the channel in Team > Chat and mentions and keep its Decisions chip; see Answer decisions from Slack.
