Personal and For you

Personal is your private chat with kanman. For you is the page beside it that shows what is current for you: what waits on you, what kanman keeps an eye on, your habits and how you like it. Everything changes through the chat.

Personal is your private chat with kanman: only you see it. Beside it sits For you, one page that shows what is current for you right now. Both are yours alone; nothing on either is visible to anyone else in the workspace.

Personal

Personal is the conversation you open when you start kanman. Ask what you like, get the morning brief there, and hear about anything that concerns only you. The chip under the message box switches between Personal and your teams; a team’s chat is shared with the whole team, Personal never is. See Talk to kanman.

For you

Open it from your avatar menu: For you (address /<workspace>/me). On a phone or tablet, the Personal chat also has a For you button right after the chip under the message box; a number on it says how many things wait on you. On a computer For you opens beside the Personal chat; on a phone it opens over the chat, and you go back with the close button.

There are no tabs and no settings to fiddle with. For you shows what is current, most urgent first, and leaves out every part that is empty. At the top kanman greets you and says in one line what waits: “Two things wait on you. Everything else runs.”

Waiting on you

Every question of your teams that needs a person, each one answerable in one tap right there. They are the same questions that are pinned over the message box in the chat: answer in either place, and the other one clears.

I’m keeping an eye on

Your one-off asks, for example “tell me when !412 merges” or “remind me Thursday about the change freeze”. They stay here until they fire. Then kanman says so in the chat and the entry drops off. To cancel one, click the × on it or tell kanman.

Your habits

The things kanman keeps doing for you: your weekly brief (if you lead a team, for example “Every Monday at 08:00 · Payments, Platform · also by email”) and the personal habits you asked for. Tap one and kanman puts it into the Personal chat, so you can tell it what to change. Team habits live on the team’s Habits tab.

How you like it

What kanman remembers about how you like to work with it, as plain statements it wrote from what you told it in Personal: “Focus Fridays 9 to 13: hold non-urgent asks”, “Likes authz work; give CVE bumps away”, “Short updates”, “Answer in German”. It also lists how much you hear about stories in team chats, the teams you hear less from or have muted, where you said kanman should only speak when asked, and, in a workspace without its own model access, which team your own questions run on (“Your asks across teams run on Sandbox Team”).

kanman works by them:

  • Focus times: questions that can wait stay in the chat and your next brief instead of reaching your phone. Urgent incidents still reach you.
  • What you enjoy and what you’d rather hand off: kanman takes it into account when it decides whom to ask or offer work to. It never repeats it to anyone.
  • Language: kanman answers you in Personal in the language you asked for.
  • Updates, quieter teams, “only when asked” and where you are reached: they change the same settings the Notifications page explains.

Only you see these statements; not your team, not the workspace’s owners. Nobody can change them but you, through your chat.

Who pays for your questions

Cost follows the work, not the person:

  • About one of your teams (a question about its code, “tell me when its MR merges”, a habit on its repositories): it runs on that team’s model access and budget. Only members charge a team; a question about a team you are not in counts as the next case.
  • About no team (small talk, a question about the workspace): in a workspace with its own model access, it runs on a small monthly allowance per person, which owners and admins set in Workspace settings > Model access > Your people’s own questions (3 € by default). In a workspace that runs everything on its own runners, it runs on your home team: your only team, else the one you lead or are most active in. Tell kanman to use another of your teams (“run my questions on Platform”); For you shows it as “Runs on …”.
  • A brief across several teams: each team’s part is written with that team’s own model access, and the parts are put together without a further model call.
  • In no team yet, in a workspace without its own model access: kanman answers what needs no model (what waits on you, statuses, lists, links) and offers you the teams to join.

Your own questions share a team’s daily pace with a small share per person. When the team’s model time for the day is used up, or your share of it is, the team’s own work goes first, and kanman tells you privately when to ask again. A team’s Weekly pace card shows how much of its model use went to people’s own questions, in total only, never per person.

Everything changes through the chat

For you shows; the chat changes. To change anything on it, tell kanman in Personal, in your own words. kanman decides what you meant and says what it will do from now on. For example:

  • “Move my weekly brief to Tuesday 9:30.” / “Stop my weekly brief.” / “Send me my weekly brief now.”
  • “Fridays until one I focus.”
  • “I like authorization work; give the dependency bumps to someone else.”
  • “Mute Payments.” / “Short updates, please.”
  • “What do you know about me?”
  • “Forget the Friday focus.”
