Keyboard shortcuts

Open the command palette, the chat with kanman and settings search, and jump between pages without leaving the keyboard.

Keyboard shortcuts help when you move around kanman many times a day. You do not need to learn all of them: ? shows the same list in the app, and Ctrl+P opens the command palette.

On Mac, use Cmd instead of Ctrl. The tables below list exactly the shortcuts the ? overlay shows, in the same groups.

Global

Shortcut Action
Ctrl+K Open or close kanman
Ctrl+P Command palette
Ctrl+J Quick actions
Ctrl+, Search settings
Ctrl+Shift+F Advanced search
? Show keyboard shortcuts
Esc Close dialog or panel

Create

Shortcut Action
C or Ctrl+Shift+T Create task
N or Ctrl+Shift+P Create epic
Ctrl+Shift+B Create team

For the G sequences, press G, release it, then press the second key within one and a half seconds. Go to team, Go to team settings and Go to trash use the team you opened last; without one, kanman asks you to open a team first.

Shortcut Action
G then H Go to home
G then B Go to team
G then S Go to team settings
G then T Go to trash
Ctrl+Shift+S Plan and billing
Ctrl+Shift+L Log out

Decisions, Audit and the workspace settings are one step away in the command palette: press Ctrl+P, type dec, aud or set and press Enter.

Open task

While a task is open in the side panel:

Shortcut Action
↑ or K Previous task
↓ or J Next task
Ctrl+Shift+C Copy task key

Text editing

In text editors, for example when you edit a story description:

Shortcut Action
Ctrl+B Bold
Ctrl+I Italic
Ctrl+` Inline code
Ctrl+Shift+S Strikethrough
Ctrl+Z Undo
Ctrl+Shift+Z Redo

In the command palette

Shortcut Action
↑ / ↓ Move through the results
Enter Open the selected result or run the action
Esc Close the palette

A few palette commands only exist in a certain context and show their shortcut next to the command while they are available.

Team page, decisions and runs

The team page, the decision inbox and the run page have no single-key shortcuts. Moving a story to another column is done in your tracker, by dragging the card or with its Move to menu, so a story is never moved to Ready by an accidental key press. Answering a decision and stopping or retrying a run always take a deliberate click or Enter on the focused button.

Accessibility

  • Every action with a shortcut is also available with the mouse, touch and screen readers.
  • Single-key shortcuts such as ?, C, N and G are inactive while you type in a text field.
  • Shortcuts cannot be customised yet. If a shortcut conflicts with your assistive technology, tell us at [email protected].
